Marine Services

Leveraging Synergy

“Why should an aerospace company do work in shipbuilding?”  When you consider modern ship design/building, the parallels become apparent. Complex geometric structures, sophisticated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical sub-systems as well as the space/weight limitations are a few similarities.

TAS-NN sees the beneficial link between aerospace and marine disciplines. Shipbuilding has reached levels of sophistication which require greater engineering discipline and manufacturing effectiveness. Cost consciousnesses demands innovation and control to ensure success. Our experience supporting aerospace OEMs has given us exposure to these forces at work, and how we can use them to offer real-world ideas and actions to help you succeed.

Because of the natural cross-over, TAS-NN has been asked to participate in past efforts to manufacture Deep Diving Apparatuses, Special Operations Submersibles and countermeasure Drones for organizations like, NAVSEA, Northrop Grumman, and USSOCOM.

One prime example of large-scale component production capability at Newport News in a non-aerospace application is a current subcontract to Northrop Grumman. This effort involves producing gearboxes for the main throttle valves on the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier fleet and began when we completed four prototype units for testing.
